2017 Monster Energy Cup - Las Vegas

Paul Iverson

It's the annual Monster Energy Cup at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. $1,000,000.00 up for grabs if one rider can win all three motos tonight on the hybrid supercross / motocross track.

On hand are Eli Tomac, Marvin Musquin, Broc Tickle, Tim Gajser (photos below) along with many others.

Unlike a normal supercross race, this race has three Main Events. If a rider can win all three, he will win one million dollars.

First moto - Eli Tomac and Marvin Musquin battle for the lead. Tomas crashes. Former MXGP World Champion Tim Gasser (HON) crashes. Musquin wins.

Moto 1 Marvin Musquin, Jason Anderson, Dean Wilson, Broc Tickle, Jordon Smith, Josh Grant. Gajser 19th, Tomac 21st, Justin Bogle 22nd.

Second moto - Marvin Musquin wins this 10 lap race. Jason Anderson 2nd, Broc Tickle 3rd. No Tomac, Bogle or Gajser because of their first moto crashes.

Moto 2 Marvin Musquin, Jason Anderson, Broc Tickle, Jordon Smith, Dean Wilson, Justin Barcia.

Third and final moto - if Marvin wins, he will pocket a cool $1,000,000! The holeshot goes to Marvin! He’s on his way! The track has dried out quite a bit … it’s even dusty.

The 10 laps probably seemed to take forever for Marvin. However, he did what he wanted to do - he wins this race, takes all three moto wins, and pockets a cool $1,000,000!

  2. Jason Anderson HUS 2/2/2
  3. Dean Wilson HUS 3/5/3
  4. Broc Tickle KTM 4/3/4

Marvin explains his thoughts after winning all three races and the $1,000,000.00:

I wasn’t even thinking about winning all three motos tonight in Las Vegas. It’s unreal to go out and win all three. We had such a long break between the second and third moto, which made it more stressful.

The key was to get a good start and try to go fast. To be honest, in my head I was thinking I would get a start around the top-three and then wasn’t sure what I would do. I knew it was going to be so hard to pass, so getting the hole-shot was the best way to go out for the third moto. I think this is great for the sport – a lot of people are watching on television. To see that someone is winning one million dollars in one night at a motocross race is unique. I think we got a lot of views, and people will be talking about it, that’s for sure. We were all in disbelief when I crossed the finish line. It’s super cool - this doesn’t happen often. I had so much fun!
